Shakira and The Weeknd to Headline the Global Citizen Festival 2025 in New York

The event will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and will feature artists such as Tyla, Ayra Starr, and Mariah the Scientist

The Global Citizen Festival 2025 now has a date and headliners: Shakira and The Weeknd will lead the lineup of the highly anticipated event, set to take place on September 27 at the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City.

They will be joined by performances from Tyla, Ayra Starr, and Mariah the Scientist, in a show hosted by actor and Global Citizen ambassador Hugh Jackman, who returns for his eleventh consecutive year as host. According to the organizers, more artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

This year’s edition is part of an ambitious global campaign focused on three main pillars: bringing access to clean energy to one million people in Africa, providing quality education and access to football for 30,000 children in partnership with FIFA, and mobilizing $200 million to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest. In addition, the festival aims to recruit 40,000 New Yorkers as volunteers across the city.

“It’s an honor for me to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September,” Shakira said in a statement. “Music has always been my way of connecting with people and making an impact in the world. I’m looking forward to performing, uniting, and inspiring action.”

It’s worth noting that Global Citizen also co-produced the historic first FIFA Club World Cup halftime show, held on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The show featured performances by Doja Cat, J Balvin, Tems, and Coldplay alongside Emmanuel Kelly.
