Heavy Metal Icon Ozzy Osbourne Dies Surrounded by Family
Legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76, just days before his long-awaited farewell concert alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates.
The sad news was confirmed by his family in a statement: “With sadness words cannot express, we must inform you that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was surrounded by his family and enveloped in love.”
Known as the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy lived a life marked by excess, substance abuse, and outrageous anecdotes that helped build a mythic persona around him. Despite his health struggles, he remained active and kept his fans updated on his condition.
On his official Instagram account, the family shared a photo with the message: “We kindly ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis.” In a previous message, Ozzy had said: “I’ve been bedridden for six years, and you have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
As the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath — a band he was once even expelled from — Ozzy helped define and revolutionize heavy metal. Some of their most influential hits include Iron Man, Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Changes.
Reflecting on the band’s early vision, bassist Geezer Butler said in 2017, as reported by The Guardian,
“We wanted to express how we saw the world at that time.”
Beyond music, Ozzy appeared in several films, mostly comedies, including Little Nicky starring Adam Sandler.
He also starred in his own reality show, The Osbournes, alongside his wife Sharon and children Jack, Aimee, and Kelly. He also had other children: Jessica, Louis, and Elliot, whom he adopted.
