Miley Cyrus Talks Touring Retirement, Working With Britney Spears & Why Beyoncé’s Work Ethic Gives Her “Chills”

Miley Cyrus opened up in a new Billboard News interview, sharing why she stepped away from touring, her admiration for Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and how she’s enjoying her current personal and professional chapter — including her recent engagement to longtime boyfriend Maxx Morando.

Speaking while promoting Avatar: Fire and Ash — for which she wrote the original song “Dream as One” — Cyrus revisited her much-discussed choice to stop doing large-scale tours. The singer, who hasn’t embarked on a full tour since 2014’s Bangerz Tour, explained that big shows no longer align with her mental well-being.

“My favorite place to perform is in small venues, even hotel lobbies,” she said. “Huge shows lose that one-on-one connection that I love.”

In recent years, she’s preferred intimate performances, such as her event at the Chateau Marmont and her special Spotify Billions Club show in Paris.

Still, there was one memorable exception: her surprise appearance with Beyoncé during the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2024, where they performed their duet “II Most Wanted” at Stade de France.
“If it’s not going to be a hotel lobby, it better be Paris with Bey,” she joked. “She’s everything you want her to be — professional, kind, and full of joy. Watching her work gives me chills.”

Cyrus also highlighted the difference between her own choice to retire from touring and Beyoncé’s clear passion for it: “She truly loves the process. She’s on fire.”

Miley reflected on her connection to Britney Spears as well. When asked about a possible 2025 version of “Party in the U.S.A.”, she said she would never replace Britney’s iconic mention in the lyrics: “I’m not taking Britney out.”

Finally, she named Beyoncé as her favorite collaborator of her career: “After that duet, I could’ve gone home completely fulfilled.”
