Renowned Chilean urban artist Camilo Paredes, better known by his stage name Standly, was detained by the Chilean police (Carabineros de Chile) on the morning of November 5 2025 in the town of San Felipe, Valparaíso Region. The detention occurred when officers from the OS 7 unit of the Aconcagua Prefecture observed a vehicle failing to stop at a “Pare” sign and crossing a red traffic light at the intersection of Avenida Yungay and Ramón Freire.
During the subsequent inspection, the driver was identified as Standly, aged 22, who was found with two bags of processed marijuana weighing a total of 16 grams. Although he presented a certificate issued by Farmacannabis that purportedly authorized medicinal-use cannabis, he nevertheless tested positive for THC in a narcotest and toxicological exam. The charges brought against him include driving under the influence of narcotics under Article 110 of Law 18.290 and violations of Article 50 of Law 20.000 regarding illicit drugs.
By order of the public prosecutor, Standly was placed on monthly signature monitoring ahead of his appearance before the San Felipe Guarantee Court. The case also raises questions regarding the distinction between medicinal-use authorization and impaired driving, setting a potentially precedent-setting moment for the Chilean music industry and public opinion.
As a rising figure in the Chilean urban music scene, Standly’s legal predicament now enters the public domain at a time when artists are under heightened scrutiny for off-stage conduct. The outcome of this case will bear implications not only for his personal career but also for how the urban industry in Chile manages incidents of illicit behavior and public accountability.
