BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ Reacts to Her First Solo MTV VMA Nominations: “I Can’t Believe It!”

August 5 brought a major surprise for ROSÉ, who couldn’t hide her excitement after learning she had been nominated for eight awards at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, marking a huge milestone in her solo career.

“I just found out I’ve been nominated for eight VMAs,” she said, visibly emotional, in an Instagram Story shared hours after the announcement. “I’m absolutely speechless. What a crazy day! Wow! This is insane! What is going on?!” she exclaimed. She also posted a screenshot of her nominations with the caption: “Waaaahhh???!

These nominations are ROSÉ’s first-ever solo recognitions at the VMAs, and most are tied to her Billboard Hot 100 No. 3 hit “APT” with Bruno Mars. The song earned nods for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects. She also received a nomination for Best K-pop with her solo single «Toxic Til the End» from her debut album Rosie.

With eight nominations, ROSÉ stands among the most-nominated artists of the year, joining Sabrina Carpenter and ranking just behind Lady Gaga (12 nominations), Bruno Mars (11), and Kendrick Lamar (10). Ariana Grande and The Weeknd follow with seven each.

ROSÉ’s BLACKPINK bandmates also earned solo nods in the Best K-pop category: JENNIE with «like JENNIE«, JISOO with «earthquake«, and LISA with «Born Again«, a collaboration with Doja Cat and RAYE. These mark the first solo VMA nominations for both JENNIE and JISOO outside of BLACKPINK.

The 2025 MTV VMAs will air live on Sunday, September 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and MTV, broadcasting from UBS Arena in New York. The show will also be available to stream on Paramount+.
