Green Day Set to Ignite Super Bowl 60 With Explosive Opening Ceremony Performance

Green Day is officially kicking off Super Bowl 60 with a high-energy opening ceremony performance on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The legendary East Bay trio — Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool — will set the tone for this year’s celebrations with a selection of their most iconic rock anthems, the NFL announced on Sunday (Jan. 17).

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. “We’re honored to welcome the MVPs who have shaped the game and start the night for fans around the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation, highlighted the significance of this year’s ceremony: “Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day, a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who helped define this sport, is a powerful way to launch Super Bowl LX. Together with NBC Sports, we’re creating a moment that fans in the stadium and across the globe will never forget.”

Green Day leads the pregame entertainment lineup, which also includes Charlie Puth performing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile singing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones delivering “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

This year’s halftime show will be headlined by global superstar Bad Bunny, who recently teased that “the world will dance” during his performance. His album Debi Tirar Más Fotos dominated the Billboard 200 for four weeks, and his world tour is breaking records, earning $107 million from the first 12 shows alone.

The opening ceremony — honoring six decades of Super Bowl history and celebrating past MVPs — airs live on February 8 at 3 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. ET on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo.
