Miley Cyrus Delivers Her Most Powerful Ballad Yet in Avatar’s “Dream As One”

Miley Cyrus shines as a “diamond in the dark” on her soaring new ballad “Dream As One,” recorded for the soundtrack of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Co-written with Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and the film’s composer Simon Franglen, the track delivers cinematic emotion and a message of unity and hope.

In a post announcing the song’s release on Friday (Nov. 14), Cyrus wrote: “Writing this song with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt came straight from the heart. Every lyric remembers where we’ve been, reflects where we are, and holds hope for what’s ahead. It was an honor to create something so personal for a film that connects so deeply with people around the world.”

The ballad, which will play over the end credits of James Cameron’s anticipated sequel, opens with intimate lines — “Our love will never fade away / We’re diamonds in the dark…” — before rising into a powerful, emotional chorus: “Even through the pain, even through the ashes in the sky… baby, when we dream, we dream as one.”

Cyrus also shared last month that her own life experiences influenced the song’s message. “Having been personally affected by fire and rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me,” she said, referencing the 2018 Woolsey Fire that destroyed her Malibu home.

Given Ronson and Wyatt’s award-winning track record — including the Oscar and Grammy for “Shallow,” plus recent nominations for “I’m Just Ken” — “Dream As One” could easily find its way onto next year’s awards lists. Cyrus herself is no stranger to soundtrack acclaim, having earned a Golden Globe nomination for “Beautiful That Way” in 2024.

Avatar: Fire and Ash, the sequel to 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, arrives in U.S. theaters on December 1
